Linus Johansson: «I wanna play a long season in Sochi»

Meet our new forward Linus Johansson and learn some more information about him from our interview.

- Hi, Linus! First of all, welcome to «Sochi»! Please, share some feelings and emotions after signing the contract…
- I’m really happy after Sochi gave me a contract and that they believe in me to help the team for the next two seasons. I got really excited!

- Why did you choose KHL and our club as the next step in your career, are you ready for your first KHL experience?
- It’s a dream come true to play in Russia, and meet the best players outside the NHL. And especially to come to Sochi, an Olympic town city.

-Tell us something about your style of playing hockey, what are your strengths on the ice?
- My strength on the ice is my two way play. I’m good in the defensive zone, take responsibility with the puck and play hard. My offensive skillset is in front of the net, protect the puck and go hard on the net every chance I got. Always give 100% on the ice.

- You also have two brothers involved into hockey; can we say that you are coming from hockey family? How is it – growing up together with 2 hockey brothers?
- Me and my two brothers have played hockey all our life. Always battle hard when we practice together. It doesn’t matter if it’s ice hockey or tennis.

- You are coming to Sochi together with Marcus Nilsson. Did the fact that you are moving together play a role in your decision to sign the contract? Did you discuss signing the contract with our club together with Linus?
- Me and Marcus got the offer the same time. We talked and we were both really excited to come and play for Sochi. And since we are friends before, I think it’s going to help us to get comfortable quick with our other teammates.

- Were you getting any advices about KHL and Sochi? From whom?
- I talked to Malte Strömwall when we played with the national team and he told us that Sochi is a very nice city and a great team to play hockey in. So he help both me and Marcus to sign in Sochi. And I’m greatly for that.

- What are your expectations from the next season?
- My expectations is that I wanna play a long season. Advance to the playoffs and battle like never before.

- We used to have lot of Swedish players in our roster. Did you know that fact? Does it give you more confidence in the upcoming season?
- Yes, I got more confident, because all the guys I talked to that’s has played in Sochi liked it. It feels good to not be the first Swedish player here.

- What do you know about Russia and Sochi at the moment? :)
- I’ve been in Moscow a few times and really liked the big city. I never been in Sochi but I’ve looked on pictures and it looks beautiful, and especially the weather :)

- Sochi is the most southern place in KHL. You are a Swedish player that maybe more used to cold weather…Will it be something strange for you – living in such warm climate? :)
- I’m used to the cold weather so to mix things up with some heat makes me really happy haha.

- Russian language…Do you plan to learn some? Or already started?
- I’m thinking of taking Russian classes when I arrive to Sochi. It’s such a cool language and I hope that I’m learning it really fast!!
