After a good start Sochi didn’t manage to hold Avangard’s potential.

Coaches decided to put finnish forward Jere Karjalainen to the first line after the game in Saint Petersburg. Linus Johansson is still recovering, so Maxim Mineyev jumped on the ice.

From the beginning teams decided to play more in the offensive zone. Sochi successfully converted the penalty of Avangard to a first goal of the night. Sergei Shmelyov made it 1-0 when their fifth player came from the penalty box. Then Avangard turned the game with two powerplay goals and made it 3-1 for Avangard in the end of the first frame.

Sochi didn’t push in the next episode of the play. Avangard also played very creative and Corban Knight scored his second of the night. In 43 seconds Jere Karjalainen cut their lead during our powerplay.

In the third period Avangard scored three unanswered goals in a 4-minutes span to kill the game.

Sochi will come back to action on Wednesday hosting SKA.
